Co-Governance

Accomplishments

Local communities taking back power

We believe in putting people before profits. In Western Pennsylvania, we’re working toward a future where everyone, no matter their background, can thrive. By holding the wealthy accountable and rewriting the rules, we can win housing, justice, and basic rights for all.

Local Leadership

With their chapter’s support and a team of members and volunteers behind them, our members have been elected to office and are already co-governing with chapters to win powerful change for their communities:

Safe & Healthy Housing

Meadville began a rental inspection program to ensure safe housing, formed an environmental advisory committee, passed a municipal Emergency Medical Service program, and passed an anti-retaliation ordinance that protects renters when they speak up for their rights.

Tenants rights take root

State College borough council passed CPAU’s Tenants’ Bill of Rights and fulfilled one of its demands: creating a city staff position to help renters navigate city services.

Budget Justice and Youth Investments

Erie County United got the City of Erie to divest $1 million from the police budget and allocate $4.3 million to Roger Young Park and youth programs. Tyler Titus, a member of ECU proposed a Gaza Ceasefire resolution for the City of Erie, and with the help of Jasmine Flores, a candidate we elected in 2021, it passed 4-3.

Allegheny County & Beyond

In Allegheny County, our endorsed candidates have won major seats to advance Southwestern PA: Sara Innamorato who raised pay, increased vacation time, and removed waiting periods for parental leave. Rep. Summer Lee secured over $1 billion for the district, including $52.4 million EPA clean water/lead removal grant and more!

We’re Winning Across the State!

We’ve run 31 movement candidates since 2019, 27 won their primary elections, and 19 won their general elections! Check out this press coverage of their victories:
