Crawford County United
Crawford County United is a grassroots member-led organization working to unite everyone who is struggling to make a living against the people who profit from those struggles.
We believe the only way to get the changes we need is to work together in an organized way. Our strategy revolves around making connections with people and helping to build a movement to improve our lives.
What we’ve accomplished:
- Over two election cycles, we elected a majority to Meadville City Council, allowing us to pass transformative legislation for renters such as a rental inspection program to ensure safe housing, and passed an anti-retaliation ordinance that protects renters when they speak up for their rights.
- In 2022, we ran CCU member Jaime Kinder for Meadville Mayor. She won that election and became the first woman and first Black mayor of the City of Meadville.
-
- Meadville formed an environmental advisory committee to identify green solutions Meadville can make to protect our climate.
Current Campaigns:
Tenants’ Rights
- Organizing alongside renters to identify hazards and unfair housing practices to work towards safe and affordable housing for all.
Electoral Work
- Over 2 election cycles, members of Crawford County United decided to run for office, and our chapter helped support them in their races. We believe in putting people over corporate interests, putting families and workers first, and delivering real material change for our community.
